Government Intrusion Inevitable Without Morality

I cannot forget that our second President, John Adams, said, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other." This means that when the people cease to be a moral people, then government intrusion will be inevitable.

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness..." Isaiah 5:20

Without the people pursuing God and His righteousness, the inevitable result of having a godless, immoral society is to have the government regulate their behavior, instead of God doing it through their consciences. If the people have no moral restraints of their own, then someone must restrain them.

Ideally, and hopefully soon, God will once again become the Restrainer of our morality. But people have yet to believe that God is the only One Who can restrain us. He does it spiritually. He has to change our "heart of stone" first, as the Bible says, and give us a "heart of flesh".

The only way to end abortion is for people to have a change of heart. That change has to come from God. And those that already know Him must pray for America daily, that He will revive us again.

For many, there is some worry and even some anger as we see these things unfold---an apathetic, increasingly godless nation that seems to be unconcerned about virtually everything, including what is going on in our government.

As long as people go further and further away from the knowledge of the true God, and have no moral foundation or moral restraints, it will become inevitable that we will see the government take over more and more of our lives. They are doing it partly for our safety, but mostly to take advantage of us in their quest for power, ignoring the real solution to our "heart" problem, because they are ignoring God.

But we should look at all these things unfolding like a tapestry, from God's point of view, and trust Him as the Grand Designer. Know that He is in control of this whole situation, and that nothing happening in America escapes His notice or confounds His Master Plan. There is a Plan and Purpose for these events unfolding the way they are. And I just hope that many will find peace of mind in trusting God for the outcome of all these events.

I began studying politics because I wanted to see what God was doing in that arena of life. I find it fascinating and appalling at the same time. If it were not for my faith in the Sovereign God, Who is in control of all things, I would be robbed of my joy. But since I do know Him, I am able to hold onto Him, steadfast in my faith, unable to be moved (spiritually speaking) by the shocking things going on in our country.

It is good and important to know what is going on in our country, and to stand for what is right. But it is vital to not lose sight of the Sovereign God, Who is in total control of all these events---though it may not seem like it most of the time.

That's what faith is.

Michele, your articles will be helpful for me to see the political happenings. I am not keen on government and/or politics, but I like to learn from those who know what is unfolding in our nation and government, and as you learn and share on this blog, you can give us, as the body of Christ, encouraged hope! God is in the midst of the whirlwind and in us is His indwelling windblown Spirit. Then, to those who have no hope or who are just trusting the government will take care of everything in the end, you can teach them, there is no hope apart from Chirst Jesus!

The Lord's Spirit moved me about a year ago to be more aware of what is happening in our country's government. I especially follow and take a stand for the pro-life movement.
I gather from the look of this blog that you have just recently created it. I will be a frequent visitor.
I check Grace_For_Life daily and I follow Terry on Twitter. I have read the articles you and Terry have written since I joined Twitter about a year ago. I am still working on reading the archives.
Thank you and Terry both for your writtings. They have encouraged me and grown my faith considerably.
God bless you both.

Jan,

Thanks, SIL. That's the focus of this blog: to help those who are Christians to not withdraw from the political scene, but to be able to approach it spiritually, and to be a light to those in darkness, politically and spiritually; and to approach political issues biblically, and to encourage those in political office to do the same.

The day I started this blog, Nov. 13, I heard Rush encourage us listeners to be that person who has the truth so that we can share the truth with others. It really touched my heart, because I never heard him say it quite like that before. And it felt like a confirmation that maybe this is a wise endeavor. I'd appreciate your prayers for me in that regard.

Here is what Rush said:

Now, [when someone asks,] "What's Wrong With Socialism?" (by Joe Herring at the AmericanThinker.com.), you often ask me, "What can we do, Rush?" Here is one answer...:

"...Become the person that your friends and family turn to when the subject turns to politics.

"You be the one that's informed. You be the one that has history on your side. You be the one with historical facts. You be the one able to talk about it. You be the one able to persuade.

"We cannot assume that people understand what's bad about socialism, because they haven't been taught it...

"Somebody comes up to you and says, "What's wrong with socialism?" you probably think they're joking. But they're not.

"You be the one to be able to tell 'em what's wrong with it...

"You become the person your family and friends consult. Assume your name is Honestas. What you have to do is become the person everybody says, "What would Honestas think about this?" It's not hard to do."

Michele

Michael,

I so appreciate your interest in our blogs and Twitters, and it means so much that you are blessed by the things we share.

I came to know the Lord in 1979. I had always wanted to learn about our government, because I really thought that it was important to do so. And it certainly wasn't taught in our schools...at least not mine.

So, it wasn't until I learned about Rush Limbaugh's radio program in 1992 that I began to get informed. He is one excellent teacher, better than any teacher I have ever had in grade school or college.

I have written him many letters throughout the years, with the goal of bringing a Christian perspective to politics.

And I really have seen a change in focus gradually on his show, almost by necessity, because the issues have become literally a matter of liberty and tyranny.

We need the Lord desperately in this dark hour in our country, more than ever.

May the things we see happening to our nation bring us the revival so many of us Christians have been hoping for.

I would appreciate your prayers that the Lord would guide me in what I share on this blog.

I wouldn't want this blog to be a place where we become puffed up with knowledge, but rather that we would be built up in love, for the Lord and for others, as we Christians attempt to give a reason for the hope that is in us, while at the same time discussing the political issues that have an impact on our lives.

Thank you again, Michael, for your encouragement and your fellowship with us.

In His Love,
Michele
